This course will consolidate familiarity with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) handbook and explore its practical application to client advantage in debt cases.
Who should attend?
Anyone who works with clients with debt.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- describe the structure of the FCA Handbook,
- identify key provisions of the FCA Handbook in relation to consumer credit cases with particular reference to the Consumer Credit Sourcebook (CONC),
- explain the interaction between the FCA Handbook and the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 and how this can be used in court proceedings in debt cases,
- explain how the above can be applied to best advantage in debt cases and the appropriate tactics for doing so.
Please note that although this training can be completed without detriment if you do not have one, we recommend that those who have one available bring along a wifi-enabled laptop or larger tablet (smaller tablets and phones will not have large enough screens). The FCA Handbook is an online facility and the trainer is keen for as many delegates as possible to be able to try navigating and completing exercises using the document online, as you will in real life after the session. However, the training will still be suitable for delegates who do not have a device to bring with them.
CPD: 4.5 hours
Duration: One day
Is this course right for me?
“I am currently working on the MAS contract advising clients by webchat and the day after the course I could already give a client the relevant part of the FCA handbook to quote in a letter to a creditor. The course has been really useful as I know the relevant parts to use relating to things like identity fraud, challenging a debt on a credit check and statute barred debts. In my job it is difficult to tell the outcome, but at least I feel I can confidently give advice!”
