To develop your money advice skills and knowledge with expert tutor support
As the only membership organisation for the free money advice sector, the IMA has been providing specialist learning, support and resources for many years . Staffordshire University has an excellent track record in developing and delivering welfare law qualifications.
Together, we provide expert learning materials and tutoring support. You will also have ongoing peer support through online discussion with fellow CertMAP students.
To increase client and creditor confidence in your advice
The IMA recently surveyed members who had passed CertMAP. They state that CertMAP accreditation has increased creditors’ confidence in their competence to deliver quality advice, which has helped deliver better client outcomes.
“Builds confidence. Covers areas not often seen but worthwhile being aware of. Adds authority to communication with 3rd parties.”
Andy Bolam MIMA (Cert), Warwick District CAB
“It makes the role of a Money Adviser more professional and I feel by having the letters MIMA(Cert) after my name gives my greater respect within my organisation and dealing with creditors as a whole.”
Andrew Bridges MIMA (Cert), Royal British Legion
To demonstrate your expertise to employers, funders and others
CertMAP graduates also highlight the importance of the qualification to them as individuals and to their organisations.
It has helped people to:
- secure employment
- progress into new roles and
- develop greater expertise.
It has also helped organisations to:
- recruit skilled and competent money advisers, by requiring CertMAP qualified applicants
- secure funding, by demonstrating the competence and quality of CertMAP qualified staff
- develop strategic partnerships.
Is your service funded by the Money Advice Service (MAS)?
CertMAP is the only MAS-accredited qualification at caseworker/specialist level. Passing CertMAP proves that you individually meet MAS accreditation requirements, which in turn helps your service meet organisational requirements for MAS funding.
“A good course, well delivered. Really useful – has definitely been beneficial to myself and my centre.”
Carl Perlstrom, Kiveton Park Advice Centre
“CMAP gives us a professional known qualification and standing which reassures clients, staff and funders that we are a qualified, specialist debt team.”
Jill Appleton MIMA (Cert), Money Advice Caseworker / Supervisor, East Liverpool (Wavertree) CAB
To obtain a higher education qualification
As well as industry recognition, CertMAP is a higher education qualification from Staffordshire University at level 4 (first year degree equivalent). The academic rigour of such a qualification has greater weight than traditional non-examined learning and development programmes.
To gain IMA accreditation and the right to use the MIMA (Cert) initials after your name
The IMA recognises the achievement of members who pass CertMAP by accrediting them. IMA accreditation is the only individual money advice accreditation scheme and stays with you. Using MIMA (Cert) means your professionalism stands out and it is now a requirement by many employers recruiting money advisers.
You maintain your accreditation by complying with our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) scheme.
To access to Staffordshire University’s alumni scheme
You are a student whilst you study and entitled to join the alumni scheme, meaning Staffordshire University can keep in touch with news, advice and further career support.
