The IMA is committed to providing the highest quality learning and qualifications designed for those seeking professional development and recognition of their expertise.
Qualifications are a relatively new development in the money advice sector which has been facilitated by the development of a set of National Occupational Standards (NOS) for legal advice. NOS were developed by a consortium of expert organisations in order to ensure that the standards are, and remain, current and relevant to the legal advice sector. The standards are owned by Skills for Justice.
The IMA has produced the Certificate in Money Advice Practice in partnership with Staffordshire University. This is a Level 4, 15 credit qualification designed for the accreditation of money advisers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The course is also available to students in Scotland via our partnership with Money Advice Scotland.
In 2011, the qualification gained the prestigious Skillsmark badge from Skills for Justice in recognition that
- learners are provided with the skills and knowledge they need for employment,
- the learning programme is relevant, current and fit for purpose, and
- the programme was designed with the needs of the employers in mind.
CertMAP for DEMSA members
The Institute of Money Advisers has been working in partnership with the Debt Managers Standards Association (DEMSA) in order to continue to raise standards in the fee payable debt advice sector. This includes the introduction of a new professional qualification in debt advice for advisers working in DEMSA member firms to give DEMSA members access to the Certificate in Money Advice Practice.
