A New Qualification for IMA Members - Certificate in Money Advice Practice
The IMA Certificate in Money Advice Practice represents the culmination of many years work to develop a Qualification specifically for Money Advisers. Funding through a grant from Severn Trent Trust Fund has allowed the IMA to develop a qualification that reflects and badges the professionalism and status of Money Advice.
What it means
Studying and passing the IMA Certificate in Money Advice Practice will provide a benchmark for service standards and assurance of high-quality advice that will meet the needs of clients, and ensure consistency of advice across all types of employers.
Money advice career structure
The new qualification will help establish a clear career structure for Money Advisers whose skills and knowledge will be externally tested and validated for the first time. Advisers who pass the qualification will be admitted as full accredited members of the IMA and entitled to use the designatory letters MIMA (Cert) signifying their professional status. A Continuous Professional Development Scheme will ensure that knowledge is kept up to date and full members will be subject to a Professional Practice Code.
Who can study for the Qualification?
The qualification is available to individuals engaged in money advice, or with an interest in related areas such as trainers, benevolent fund officers, housing, and policy officers. Students who wish to enrol on the course must already be, or apply to become members of IMA. As the course contains all the study material, it will allow students to learn and be tested on the full range of activities involved in money advice casework.
How much will it cost?
The cost of the qualification is £300 which must be paid in advance of starting on the course.
Bursary funding
The IMA is very grateful for the generous support of MBNA, who are providing funds to cover up to £200 towards the cost of the qualification, per person. MBNA, a Bank of America company, is pleased to be supporting the IMA’s Certificate in Money Advice Practice.
This new qualification is an important step forward in professionalising the work of money advisers and setting high standards for the advice given to clients. MBNA has granted financial support to the IMA qualification by the provision of Bursary funding over 3 years. We hope that these bursaries will encourage members of the IMA to take the qualification and we look forward to hearing about their success.
