Tim has worked in the free advice sector for most of his working life, first as a welfare rights officer with a local authority and then (after taking Law Society Finals) in various money adviser roles and as a deputy manager in a Citizens Advice Bureau. Tim moved over to Citizens Advice in 1997 as a Money Advice Development Officer before moving across to a Citizens Advice Specialist Support role a few years later where he is currently a debt Specialist Support Officer. Tim’s current role includes delivering training and supporting advisers to deal with complex cases or issues.
Tim is an IMA Trustee Board member and prior to that served in various roles as a trustee and officer of the Money Advice Association. He is a member of the Civil Procedure Rule Committee and the Quarterly Account Editorial Board.
Nick is CEO of the Debt Counsellors Charitable Trust and was appointed to set up the charity in March 2014. Prior to this, from October 2008 to November 2013 he was Director of External Affairs at the Paymex Group.
From 1997 to 2008, Nick was the National Debt Advice Coordinator at the charity AdviceUK. From 1993 to 1997 he was Head of the Money Advice Unit at Citizens Advice head office in London. For the 13 years prior to 1993 he worked as a Money/Debt Adviser and Debt Advice Centre Manager in a variety of organisations including several CABx, an Independent Advice Centre and a Local Authority.
Nick was previously a Director and Board member of the United Utilities Trust Fund, Debt Managers Standards Association and the Debt Resolution Forum. He is currently a Trustee and board member of the Institute of Money Advisers.
As one of the UK’s leading experts on personal debt, Nick has worked as a debt recovery consultant to several national financial institutions and has written and trained extensively on debt, credit and related issues.
Mark is currently Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Associate Dean for Learning and Teaching at Staffordshire University. As a Co-optee to the Board Mark acts in an advisory quality assurance capacity in relation to the IMAs educational work.
Jane Clack MIMA (Cert) – IMA Council Representative to the Trustee Board
Initially working in publishing and English as a Foreign Language teaching, Jane started work for Payplan in 2001. After developing her money advice skills on the Helpline and in assessment of cases, she then set up the Special Advice Team and moved into money advice training whilst still maintaining direct contact with clients. She has been a member of the IMA for 10 years. She has the Certificate of Proficiency in Personal Insolvency, the Certificate in Money Advice Practice and is an approved DRO intermediary. She is on the IMA’s Accreditation and Qualifications Subcommittee and the 2017 Conference Steering Group.
