Applying for a Debt Relief Order

If you have debts and think that you may be able to apply for a Debt Relief Order you will need to go through an approved DRO Intermediary. The IMA cannot give advice to the public.

The IMA is a Competent Authority and we are in the process of assessing and approving Intermediaries in various advice agencies around England and Wales. When we have done this we hope to put a list of approved Intermediaries on our website. Until this time you can access advice from your local advice agency or National Helpline by following the link to the Community Legal Advice website.

Although this website will probably not tell you which agencies have DRO Intermediaries – the agencies themselves will be able to. Not all agencies will have Intermediaries but all agencies providing Money / Debt Advice should be able to discus whether you would be eligible for one and if so refer or signpost you to an Intermediary.

The legislation for Debt Relief Orders came into force on April 6th 2009 but advisers and advice agencies will need time to put the necessary procedures in place in order to be able to deliver them. All Intermediaries have to go through a training and application process which takes time so please be patient.
